Possible video guide?

Just a generalized question for anyone out there. i'm a complete noob when it comes to these things but i'm always willing to learn, or attempt to learn. A few spots i had some questions about as none of my stuff seemed to work, at all. I'm going to delete everything and start over from step one and see if i can figure out where i went wrong on my first attempt. i've even deleted FFXI and POL to do a fresh install on it.
but the question i had was, has anyone thought of doing the set-up on like a video tutorial? I know for me this would help clarify some key points. I've googled for hours and couldn't find a set-up guide for this in video format. Was just wondering if anyone has made one or thinking of making one.

On Era's forums we have a full install guide here:

Forum:
Server Setup & Guides
anyways, i've not seen a video guide on it, although the culprit may be because it's a huge pain to alter a video guide (compared to text) if something in the installation changes, cause it does every now and then
you can always ask your questions in IRC though, someone will be happy to help!
(they better be happy to help, or i'll fire them)

Thanks atom0s, that gives me a point to reference at least but i was looking more for server or both. I'll take anything remotely close at this point to help me identify what i might possibly be doing wrong.
@kjLotus, I'm deffinately not trying to get anyone fired >.> I didn't even think of the fact it might change to often to really do a viable video of it.
I'll get this figured out no matter how many attempts I have to make. If i am understanding the forums and I have been pouring thru them lately (Found a lot of very useful info, course a lot of it does me no good till i can get it up and running lol) I think part of my problem is i am trying to use the Same PC for bother server and Client (internal and external) I have Hamachi, i'll try using that once i can get everything to run properly and only dealing with connection issues. Maybe I'll have to dust off an old PC repair it enough to run the client itself.
Course for all i know i might be doing it backwards. I was doing server first than client, maybe i should focus on getting client to work and able to log in to another someone elses public server. that would clear that off my plate to focus on client.

most of us developers just run them both off the same machine

His first post implied he was asking for how to install FFXI given that he mentioned he had uninstalled/reinstalled and was asking for a video afterward.
So it sounded more like he was having issues installing the game itself.
As for setting up the server, no there are no videos covering it. Not to sound rude but if you have your hand held through just getting the server working. You will never figure out how to keep it up to date properly, without more hand holding etc. Running the server software, let alone compiling it, requires some knowledge of how to use Visual Studio, as well as understanding how programming works in some aspects.
While we do enjoy seeing people interested in hosting their own servers, it does become annoying to get asked basic questions constantly day in and day out because someone has no idea what they are doing and wants their hand held through every step.
I'm not saying you are or will do that. Just saying that is typically how it goes when someone new finds the project and gets excited haha.

Being someone who's very technically minded, i had no clue when I started. Now I have a fairly successful server with a bunch of players and i'm still learning daily. If you hop on irc shoot me a pm and i'll try to explain the basic concepts if you have issues getting it going otherwise. I needed people to be *very* patient with me when I started, and they were, but i could tell if we were in the same room they'd punch me in hte face.

@Atom0s, thats not what i was having problems with, My servers wouldn't even start up, if they did they would run for about 30 seconds and close out with no error messages. Since I also made some changes to the POL and FFXI I decided to delete and reinstall them so i can start over on step one. I will more than likely do this several times before i invite my friends to come to my server. Even if I get everything working perfectly, i'll still do it to familiarize myself with the set up.
Anyways last night i redid everything, and it worked. But while looking at the forums i was given the impression that the default 127.0.0.1 IP was default internal and would not connect external. So I kept trying to change it to reflect the External IP. The programs refused to run. This morning I had a post i since deleted because I believe it was OHAT(operators Headspace And Timing) that caused the errors.
Now again I am a complete Noob, But I thought I needed to change the Config file itself witht he External IP, Since this morning I believe i was wrong. but i'm not sure where the external IP needs to go, Is it just the query in NAvicat? or are there additional places it needs to go.I the Directions seemed pretty clear to me, just add the Password, but after reading forums I was under the impression I need to tchange the config.

Thanks again kjLotus, When I get home i already planned to change everything back and work the client set up. Hopefully I can get everything to work and connect. If not i'll mess around with it and check forums for that specific issue. If So I get to delete everything and start over.
