Modding/overhauling foods

If I were to copy an item script & just change the item number within, could I write over another one & essentially make them the same food? For example, I am wanting to use the colored drops as modified foods for various scenarios to compensate for the low population in end game. If I copied the script from the .lua file for Bowl of Ambrosia into the .lua file for each drop, then just changed the item number accordingly & added/removed the desired buffs, would that work?

Additionally, I am wanting to add certain food mod stats to existing foods that don't already have it. Will just adding a line with the desired MOD ID to each of the respective areas of the script allow me to do this without issue?
