Anyone having an issue post 8/11/2014 patch?

I have a couple of friends that just setup their FFXI clients to connect to another friends hosted private server. Their characters don't level up, however when I connect an create a new account mine is leveling just fine... the only factor I can think of that would cause this would be the recent patch. Has anyone else seen this?

what do you mean by "don't level up"?

from what's been described to me when their characters reach the experience to reach the next level, i.e. from level 1 to level 2, the actual 'leveling up' action does not occur and they remain at level 1...

I have the same exact problem. After setting up the server, I am able to create a character and level, but my daughter's character stays at level 1 regardless of how many mobs she kills. She is running on a separate PC than mine. I have left all the settings as default.

it seems to be working correctly on my client, which is updated to retail

Could this type of issue occur with a misconfigured client perhaps?

hard to tell without knowing how they stay at level 1 (exp overflow? no exp? exp resets? etc)

I have set up the server as per the instructions on the wiki page. I know that the client for my daughter's game was also set up as per the wiki. Is there a way to see if there is an exp restriction or reset? I am new to this so I am sure it was something I did.
