Good morning! I just setup a DSP server on my LAN on a machine called Diablos. The FFXI client on Diablos can connect into the DSP server, log in, run around, etc it works great.
I have a 2nd machine on my network (Fenrir) and it's however not able to connect to the server. I get as far as entering my login and password and then it says "Sending account id..." "Closing..." I'm not sure what's wrong as I setup both machines identically and I've just run through the POL file check for FFXI successfully. Windows Firewall is off and the PC's are on the same LAN together.
Any ideas? I've tried poking around the forums but most folks fix this with a File Version check and my version check came back good. Attached Screenshot of error and my Windower XML file showing the xiloader lines.
Closing... when trying to log into new DSP Server

Re: Closing... when trying to log into new DSP Server
Taking the steps in the thread below fixed my issue. Even though my files passed the version check when I deleted the 0 file and made POL do a version check again, fully update (2-3hrs), and then tried again I was able to log into the new DSP server.

Step 1.
Open playonline viewer (NOT ashita - open POL directly).
Step 2.
Select "Check Files" but and then "Final Fantasy XI" don't begin yet. If an installer window comes up, just cancel it.
Step 3.
Browse into your FFXI install directory, will look something like
Code:
\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI
Now browse into rom, then into a directory just named the number 0
Step 4.
Delete, yes DELETE, 0.dat (again, that is a zero) do not touch any other file.
Step 5.
Go back to that POL viewer you still have open (You DO still have it open, don't you? If not, slap yourself and return to step 1 ! ). Start the file check. It will check your local files, see 0.dat is missing, then tell it found 1 problem and ask to fix it. Go ahead and ok that, and it will recheck your files AGAIN except this time against the latest version on SE's servers. When that finished it will finally begin updating. Ain't SE's update system grand? /sarcasm.
It's so much fun to enjoy FFXI again in our own private world. Thank you DSP!
