Linux user struggling with ffxi-boot.

Post by Cortexiphan » Sun Sep 29, 2013 9:27 am

I was directed here by another forum, they told me that the ffxi-boot.exe program originated here. If it did not, disregard me (unless you can help!).

I've been trying to join a private server for five days now. I have fully updated POL, FFXI, and WINE, and ffxi-boot allowed me to create an account, but crashes every time I try to log in. I am using Ubuntu 12.04, and other than the OS, my computer does easily meet the minimum system requirements to play. I've already read every single page on Google that includes the phrase combinations of "ffxi-boot.exe" or "Ashita.exe", and "linux", "ubuntu" or "wine" trying to solve this, and actually already ran out of pre-existing solutions on the Internet.

The short question is: Has anyone ever successfully used this, or any other FFXI booter, on a linux distro?

Judging by the lack of responses, i'd say no one has tried to do what you're doing :(

I got a sliver of assistance on another forum. Updated wine, then installed the latest redist of DirectX 9, and re-installed FFXI.

I got slightly farther, but not far enough to create a character :/

Does it even work with a retail account? I'd verify that first. That would eliminate the loader as the source of the problem.

My FFXI-Boot used to crash in Windows 8. I finally realized that it was getting to the point of loading the game and failing. Traced the issue back to permissions with FFXI-Boot, and started Run-As-Administrator, fixed my issue. Maybe there is a way to do something like that in WINE?

<~ Not a Linux person

If you get past that and get an error @ Char creation, make sure you move the Data folder from Playonline Folder, over to the Final Fantasy XI folder.
