PC, NPC, and monsters not displaying - think it's drivers

Post by Lyrium » Thu May 14, 2015 7:40 am

Hi all,

I recently reformatted my computer and after reinstalling FFXI and DSP I don't see any character models displaying. I recall something similar happening way back when I first installed FFXI on it a few years ago and it was a driver issue, but for my life I cannot remember where I found a working driver. It's got Nvidia GeForce GT 630M card and I think Intel HD 4000 as well. I tried rolling back the Nvidia drivers and even installing an older version from some time ~2013.

I've come across the ZAM post as well as one on BG and AH, but they are all pretty dated and I'm not sure how to get the drivers rolled back that far. The screenshot on the AH link is pretty much exactly what I'm seeing though.

Does anyone know where I can find a working driver to fix this issue?

Thank you,
~Lyrium

I've heard of that problem with the Intel display. Since you have both NVidia and Intel, I'm assuming you're on a laptop. Either make the default adapter the NVidia one system-wide or just have FFXI use it.

How to do that is left up to you. I know on Dell laptops the external monitors by default are on the NVidia adapter and Intel runs the LCD. You can go into the BIOS and toggle the "Optimus" setting. There should be ample information on the Internets on how to do it.

I am on a laptop, Lenovo G780, but I forget the specsoff the top of my head. I'll look into how to default to the Nvidia card at least for FFXI and worst case just try different driver versions until I find a working one lol.

Thanks whasf for the lead on setting the default adapter though, it very well may be the Intel one causing the issues.
