Hosting my server to public...with hughesnet.

Hey guys,

I recently moved and found out comcast doesn't have lines here yet so I'm stuck with hughesnet for the time being. I can't seem to get people to be able to connect to my server, or even ping my network. I used the IP that both the modem and router gave me as the WAN ip, and those didnt work. If I google my public IP, I get a COMPLETELY different IP though, and some other websites give me something different than both of those. Anyone have any idea what's going on with this dumb satellite internet?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

Hughesnet claims all ports are open on the modem, and I opened them on the router as well.

you use the public IP from google if you want people to connect publicly

Yeah, no one can reach my public IP though. After some more research I found out that my public IP is actually shared with other customers...hughesnet has been a joke and I can't wait to get rid of it. I can actually reach my home network using an ipv6 address though, can I put a ipv6 address into the ip setting in the server?

Hughesnet has a bandwidth limitation, I'd imagine its hurting the server a bit and they have a tendency to throttle their customer's speed based on use/time.

I'm going to just run it at my dads and see how bad the lag is at my house. Hughesnet is horrible, I recommened to everyone to make sure the house you want to buy has comcast first haha They told me this house did but turns out it needs a new line that would cost me $10k to get installed because they'd have to go over train tracks...

I'm running into a different problem now...when someone tries to connect to the server, even from inside my local network, they get failed to resolve hostname. I've never had this happen before, does anyone know what could cause it?

Thanks

Edit:

I was being dumb, i forgot a space on the three computers I tested on...haha
