Recent retail update - new players can't check files

In the past few days we've had a few people try to join (or rejoin, in one case) our private server, and they're unable to get Final Fantasy XI to show up in the drop-down menu in PlayOnline when going to Check Files. We've given them the patch that fixed that before, and haven't had this issue until just this week.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Right now I'm updating myself and creating a new patch file to give those players. Otherwise I'm at a loss.

Did you follow the wiki instructions?
Based on the comment, they missed this:
Step 3 (part 1) - Updating Final Fantasy XI
Download the file: here
Open the file using an archiving program
Extract to a new directory e.g. c:\patch
Close your archiving program
Navigate to c:\patch
Single left-click anywhere in the folder and press Ctrl+A
Once you see everything highlighted press Ctrl+C

Step 3 (part 2) - Updating Final Fantasy XI (continued)
Navigate to the directory you installed Final Fantasy XI.
(For 64-bit systems, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\)
(For 32-bit systems, navigate to C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\)

Paste those files you copied from C:\Patch to /FINAL FANTASY XI/ directory.
Single left click any where in the directory and hold Ctrl+V
When prompted to overwrite the files say Yes to All
Close windows explorer.
That is exactly what happens if you don't do this. You don't see ffxi in the drop down menu.

Yeah I've been around the whole patch stuff and verified they had done that.

I figured it out, had to make a new patch file for new players. Old installations worked fine but new ones needed a new patch. All good.

I'm brand new to this scene, and just tried setting up my client. I encountered the same issue described here. Even after following the wiki instructions *exactly* the dropdown doesn't show FFXI as an option. Any idea where I can get an updated patch? I can't seem to find one.

I had it fail until I follow the instructions. I was missing the downloaded patch. So, go to the wiki, find the patch download, and follow the instructions for it (Download, extract, copy/paste, overwrite, done)...
