LAN serving issues

Post by insomniacsdad » Sat Feb 09, 2013 6:39 pm

So I pulled down the server setup .pdf and installed all required programs, unpdated via pol to current version. Built servers, activated servers, logged in and played fine on the pc that is running the servers. Went to LAN pc's and logged in, created accounts, created characters but when I try to play from any of the other pc's I get stuck on the "downloading data" screen. Killed the firewall completely and still no joy. What am I missing? Also, server machine is running xp and the others are either xp or win 7.
Have tried both ffxi-boot and mxi.

Check that your zone_setting.zoneip isn't set to 127.0.0.1. It's the one where you have to put the IP address through a formula.

So, it seems you're on to something and I ran my lan ip on a few converters and came up with the same result so I updated zone_ip via navcat and got no errors. The trouble now is that I can't load in from anywhere. Login and acct setup are still working via host machine and lan machines but "...downloading data..." is all I can get from any machine now. Any ideas? My thanks in advance. The kids have been drooling over the prospect of running even the most basic server from home and throwin' down next to dad.

Also, if I change the zone_ip back to it's original I can play from the host machine.

Do I need to update the servers to make those changes take effect or something?

Ok, so I was looking at the zone_settings in navcat and they all appear as the new ip that I updated them to. But then out of sheer running out of ideas I opened the zone_settings in a text editor and found that all the values there were values reflecting the local ip 127.0.0.1. Should I manually change those and save the sql file that way?

Missed the part where the lan ip had to be entered in reverse to get a proper value to update zoneip with. Knew it'd be something tiny. Thanks

the .sql file does not represent the current state of your database. it's just a bunch of statements to initially set up your table
