NPC: Rex (Port Bastok, J-7)

NPC: Rex (Port Bastok, J-7)
This is extremely minor. It's just something that caught my eye. I have not verified if I received the map or not, nor investigated the the source code. I only took a screenshot as I do not have a local server running yet.

I bought a map and the text said "You obtain 0 white-drawer almirahs!" as you can see.

I made a bug thread about something similar happening with the windurst map vendor in port windurst and the bastok markets map vendor.

I've gotten random quest messages, random magian trial messages, and random abyssea / cruor messages before.

nothing to apologize for lol

just more confirmation that this isn't some specific to the NPC, it's probably a bug with the map vendors in general.

Actually it is an issue with client updates. Messages almost always get messed up any time the client is updated but it doesn't usually affect major quests since those are handled via events instead of messages. The offsets will get fixed at some point, but then it will give the wrong message to anyone using the older client version.

Makes sense.

Seem's like a huge hassle to stay up to date with all the latest ffxi client changes. Would there be a way to pick one version of the client and develop around that or build into the logon program (MXI or FFXIBoot) the portion of POL that runs the file update check?

Should I, as a player on one of the servers, run check file every time prior to logging in?

If you could manually patch the game it would be easy, but since there's no legit way to update the game without the POL they cant do much about it, without offering their own update which im assuming is highly difficult and/or not possible to hack the POL to use their own update.. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through in my opinion..

It is kinda lame the way POL does the version updates.

It seems the only choices are to run off a boxed set only and patch all the bugs yourself or always be chasing the retail client updates. Both seem to be a hassle.

If it's going to always be chasing the updates then some sort of version tracker would probably be helpful so players know when it's time to update.

http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/info/list_upd.shtml -- This one?
http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/polnews/news.xml -- RSS feed, contains more than just version updates
https://twitter.com/FFXI_EN -- Twitter?

Can also periodically check ffxiah.com, they have a semi-nice update panel.

Keep in mind though that constantly updating your version could exasperate the problem unless everyone's on the same page, so to speak.

That's what I meant. Some sort of version tracker for the dark star project to let people know when It is time to patch up to the retail version.

Maybe even schedule the project version update for the same time each month so everybody can be on the same page. Like everybody patch their client on the 15th of every other month or so.
