Deprecated Darkstar fourms

I don't understand. I installed everything properly and did the updates and all that jazz, everything just like my personal laptop. My personal laptop is running windows 7 and has no issues, but my boyfriends laptop is windows 8 (and I know other people use windows 8 with no problems). What am I doing wrong? He can't see any of his characters, npcs, mobs or other people's characters! It's just floating names!

Maybe someone running it on win8 can chime in? Only thing i can think of is make sure you're running it as administrator

I have Windows 8 on my laptop. FFXI-Boot works fine for me but mXI crashes every time I run it. Even as admin.
Have you tried the new client Whasf posted? It seems to work well with Windows 8.

Side note: You are sure you installed all the software the clients need for support? (Referring to the list of applications on the server-install page)

Yeah I installed everything correctly. Once I get his laptop in my hands I'll check out the new client. I gotta find it first. Ill give ya guys an update as soon as I can!

So I just tried installing it on windows 7 like I did with my personal laptop and the same thing is occurring. So it's not just a windows 8 issue. I tried every type of client -.-

did anyone have the solution ???

I had this problem when I got my brand new Windows 8 computer.
All I did was update DirectX and puff, problem was gone.

I'm running the game under Windows 8 Pro, with a Core i7 and a NVIDIA 650M GT btw.
