Noob Question

Hi! So I have foufn this place thanks to some other forums, and such, and I am highly interesed in the whole privet server aspect of FFXI.
Can anyone help me in finding a starting point? I have been going through the forums, and the amount of information is awesomely overwhelming. . . haha but! any help would be much appreshiated.
