Where is this server going? I have had a lot of time on my hands recently and I'm trying to find a game I want to stick to for a LONG time. I played FFXI for like 5 years and only had one level 75 character with just a couple merit points. Grinding everyday isn't my thing and I can stay busy with a game like for a long time very easily. So I need to like the game. ToAU is not my cup of tea (and probably not anything past it). The color is too pale, tastes too sweet, and leaves me thirsty and tired. I really like the server but if it is going past COP, even in the next year or two, then I feel like I am wasting my time. So is the classic server going past COP?

The short-term goal is Zilart completion...we accept outside contributions beyond zilart, though any post-75 content is locked out until we can get a content management framework in-place. The core devs will mostly knock out one expansion at a time. Maybe as we go beyond Zilart content we can start working on that framework so individual server operators can decide what expansion to support. As for the classic server, you will have to ask whasf what his plans are.

The classic server will follow the development of the project for now.

mind you, this is all beyond my capabilities to explain any of the details in the setup guide lol

but here is the guide on the dark star wiki to setting up your own server.

One of the goals of the project is to be able to turn on or off different expansions.

So when they work out the way to do that you could disable all the older content. I think in the mean time there are things you can do to make it impossible for people to go to non-zilart zones.

With that said there are tons of servers to play on besides the classic server ( I think we have 8 known servers?).

Also yes there is recent pushes on the svn for Aht Urhgan zones and CoP.

I don't even know where to start with this. I've thanked whasf multiple times and have attempted to determine where the server is going multiple times. It has been very hard to determine if the server is stopping at Zilart or going past it. Why would I play on a server with exp multipliers and increased drop rates when I can pretty much do that on the official servers in Abyssea? The whole reason I am asking these questions is because I DONT want to play a FFXI with anything past COP. I don't understand the point of having 8 pretty much identical servers either. I suppose they were all just started by different people? I spent five years playing FFXI to see ToAU come along and change everything and I have no desire to do it again. Thanks.

I have read through the server guide. It's really nice and seems easy enough. I suppose I would get a cheapo computer to install it on and leave it running all the time? I would like access to Zilart and COP. If there was a way to make it impossible for people to access the other areas I would set it up tomorrow.
