As far as I am aware, I check if my client is out of date by just opening POL and going file check -> ffxi, right?

Cause it gives me the message "no errors found"

there are two steps to file check: first, the client will determine if any files are missing/corrupted by comparing hashes. this part uses no internet connection. if they all pass, then the file check is done. if it doesn't pass, the client connects to the server and checks what version is on the server, and will a) repair any files that were corrupt/missing, and b) download any files that are newer than the version your client has.

basically, if you don't purposefully delete or corrupt/change a file, you won't ever update


also, /ver in game will print the clients version to chat

there we go, that fixed it. Didn't realize I had to delete a file and force an update. Everything back to 100% working as normal
