Can't create a new account, existing can't log into game

Hello all,

Sorry if this topic has been covered but could not find a solution anywhere

Lobby, Map, and search servers are running on one pc. Myself and friend testing are using Ashita to log in.

I am new to running my own servers and was working on a private for me and my friends. I followed all the guides and managed to set up the server to run and log in on my own pc just fine.

Seeing as how nothing was wrong, i then forwarded all my ports through my router and altered the various locations with my IP.

Now when I try and log into my existing account, I can log into the lobby server just fine, and select my character. Once the game starts to load it times out. I checked the map server and it doesn't seem like anything is communicating with it (so no visible errors or anything, and looks the same from starting it up).

Secondly, when I or my friend attempt to create a new account through Ashita, it is unable to do so.

it shows "[Warning] login_parse: (user ip) send unreadable data
[Info] login_parse: (user ip) shutdown socket"
...on the lobby server

So it is at least trying to communicate with the lobby.

I went through the wiki a couple times and everything seems to be in order.

Tried turning off my firewall and everything as well. (added the ports as exceptions in the firewall as well)

So I am kind of at a loss as to what to check so if anyone has a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok scratch that part about not being able to log in with existing. I was just stupid and only made firewall exceptions for the lobby server and not the map or search server.

Though not sure why it didn't work when i disabled it...

But still having an issue with account creation, so if anyone knows how to go about that, it would be helpful.

Are you trying to create an account from the FFXI client, or from the Ashita client?
Because you need to use the Ashita client for account creation.

I had issues with specific complexities of Passwords, specifically using ! in passwords seems to fail.

Yeah it was through the Ashita client. I don't know what was going on, but that whole day we couldn't make accounts. Next day I restarted, and it magically worked. (Even though we restarted it the day before as well.) So all is well now, but would be nice to know what caused the issue to begin with.
