They are still working on the options to disable expansions.

I'm sure it will come at some point, I doubt they have a time line though because its all volunteer work they are doing here.

Officially, CoP and ToAU zones aren't even implemented. Oh sure, you can go in and start scripting them. 'spretty easy, actually. I started CoP, but gave up because it would have fallen quite short of the standards I had for a "good" job. Lots of missing cutscenes, etc.

Faursel, the NPC that grants access to ToAU, doesn't work in the trunk code. He's something that Whasf whipped up for his servers only, to give the players something else to do. The ferry also won't carry you to Aht Urghan; it just kicks you out. So as things stand with the trunk code, CoP and ToAU are locked out.

You'll do what you think is right, and that's your choice. Currently, the game balance is a bit of a mix of whatever era was chosen at the time. I beat this example to death, but Hasso/Seigen have behavior that's very current, while Sekinokki is still L60 instead of the updated L40. I agree that something should be done to neaten that up, but it makes sense to get all of the L1-75 abilities working for all pre-ToAU jobs first, as well as everything else that's missing from the core like mob roaming, spell casting, etc. Once that's done, work can be considered on making job abilities correct to a specified period.

You asked whasf what his plans were for the Classic server; he answered. Beyond that, I think there's just a misunderstanding.

Feel free to set up your own server if you don't like how I run the old-school one. That's the beauty of this project, the source is available for you to download, modify, run, and do whatever you want :)

How you run it is great. A server that has post abyssea content, a server with pre abyssea content, and pre ToAU would be awsome. That way different eras of the game are covered.

I have seen people in COP areas. I know things are kind of a mess now. I'm more concerned with where it will end up years down the road. So as I understand it the servers will all be going the same direction except that the classic server will not have abyssea.

I think the best thing would be for you to run a server with your specific Zilart only vision.

You are right that there isn't a server with that stated goal set up yet.

I actually use VirtualBox (totally free) to run a copy of Windows XP with Darkstar set up on it. If you go that route, changing the VirtualBox settings for Network from "NAT Adapter" to "Bridged Adapter" will make your life a lot easier, but otherwise defaults all the way. That might be an option, although I think some people have reported oddness when trying to mix outside-of-network computers with computers on their home network.

I use mine just for personal script testing and goofing around though, so I haven't really encountered that issue. Performance has been pretty much okay, although the extent of my testing has been my desktop and laptop connected to the server.

Excuse my ignorance, but if I did use VirtualBox, would I have to have the computer on all the time for people to connect to the server? Or what is the advantage to using virtualbox?

Right now I am trying to install all of the software on a laptop with a Sempron 3300+ and ati xpress 200 video card. I hope it works. The computer I usually use is a macbook pro that I have installed Windows 7 on through bootcamp.

VirtualBox just allows you to run 2 different OS at the same time on one PC.. You'd have to keep your computer running if you want your server running. Unless you're not hosting on your PC
