cant connect to servers on on my vm

Post by mvd1987 » Mon Oct 22, 2012 5:39 am

hey everybody :)

thanx for al help i got from everybody.
i have everything up and running and the server is working fine.
no i wanna go public (use a external ip adress) but also wanna be able to play on it myself.
for that reason i created a vm with virtual box and rebuilded the server on the vm.now everything works fine when i use the internal network IP (192.168.x.x)
and connect trough the client from my host to the servers on my vm.
but when i use the external ip it couldnt find my servers in the client.
now i have been told to use a proxy server on my host so i an connect to my servers on the vm.

hope someone can tell me how to do this or has a different way that works.
or is there anybody that use the same method to connect to his own server.

thanx already and hope someone can help me with this :)

greetings michael

i want to connect to my server on the same computer i run the servers (servers ar run in a vm and has the origanal external ip)
now i want to connect to it on mwith my client on the host computer to the servers on my vm.

Darkstar isn't designed to be run on the same machine as the client. It needs to know the external IP clients are connecting to because it is scalable (you will be able to have multiple game servers that can host only certain zones).

Your router might not support hairpinning (http://searchunifiedcommunications.tech ... airpinning). In that case you either need to host it outside your network, or decide if you want to play with your friends or not :)

Well, I did suggest tunneling those ports through a proxy outside of his LAN which should work, but its not an ideal solution...just a work-around.

I think we need to add this to the FAQ

if you can get past the wiki account creation,

it took me like 5 tries to make an account,

ehh I thought that would be the easiest form of verification >.>

Its amazing how quickly spam bots attach onto a wiki. If it weren't for that then I wouldn't even need crap like that.

hey guys,

yes i tryed tunneling it but cant get it to work :(.

now i will host my public servers (its not public yet, still need some scripting to do on it) on the vm for the public.
and will run a server on my host so i can do some scripting and testing of my own before i put the change into the server for the public in the vm.
so i can change things and test them out while i run a other server for the public on the vm.
this works bether for me,dont need to play all the people just wanna go on with makings changes and testing them myself so with a vm this works perfecly :)

and bluekirby can you add a guide on how to tunnel the client? cause i could only find a guide on how to do it for wow and that isnt working for the darkstar cleint.

but for now im good and will run my public server on the vm.

i will let it know when its ready and goes public.
and will add my server to the private server list.

Well tunneling the client is a little outside the scope of normal usage so I'd rather not have to write a guide for it. That is a large investment of time to aid a small percentage of users.
