What happened today?

Hello everyone,

I joined the server about 2 weeks ago. I had no issues logging in and playing for awhile until today. I was kicked off (I assume for server maintenance... there was no warning whatsoever so I don't know). And a hour or so later, I came back to try and log in. I can't even get to character selection. Instead I get:

"Error code: FFXI-3331
The game's data has been updated.
Please return to the PlayOnline FINAL FANTASY XI
top page and download the latest version"

I already searched up on this forum for this issue. I saw few solutions but that is for getting into their own server. I don't want that; I want to return to darkstar's server and continue what I was doing but I can't because of this.

I can't even find darkstar folder to fix version in version.info - I did a total computer search and I got nothing. What am I supposed to do to reconnect to this server?

It sounds like the game server you were connecting to updated their version and so now your client version is out of date. Which server were you connecting to?

Most likely, you just need to go through the process to update your client. There are several ways to do this.

I don't know if the method I use to update the client is (best practice) or not and I take no responsibility if these steps do not work for you.

Delete 0.DAT from your client, **BUT SAVE A COPY**. Typical location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\0\

Run polboot.exe Typical location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

Select Check Files
Select Final Fantasy XI Ver.[xxxxxxx]
Select Check Files
Let this run for awhile.
Then repair files.
You will get a message like 1 file could not be repaired. That is ok.
Once done with everything.

RESTORE 0.DAT Typical location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\0\

Yep, I updated the server. You need to update your client.

Whasf: Ah, is this same update you said you'd do on Saturday, relating to fixing single thread to server thing?


EDIT: I did the steps, it didn't find any problem at all... I returned the ROM 0 thing to original place, and tried to come online. Still doesn't work. Hmm...

This is a much deeper update, when the retail client is updated they sometimes like to mess with the NPCs..

Ah, but I didn't touch retail. Everything on my computer is for darkstar server only so I'm not sure why I'm having this issue. Very strange...

Anyhow, I'm doing this now. Hopefully it'll work. Thanks for speedy replies.

EDIT: It worked, now I'm online. Thanks!
