Game freezes after Character Creation - Error POL-0260

I've been trying to connect to my own server as well as the DarkStar Classic Server and am unable to actually get into the game. "Acquiring PlayOnline Character List" is displayed but never completes. It eventually times out and I get error POL-0260, followed by error FFXI-3115. Afterwards when trying to log in again with my character I get error FFXI-3117. Clearing the database starts the process all over again. I just finished updating both playonline and FFXI and am positive it is a client side error, using Ashita, any ideas what may be wrong?

Are you giving it three tries to log in? It sounds like you are only giving it two before wiping your database. It has been mentioned in a few places (including the client setup guide) that a new character can take up to three tries to get in-game.

I'm not sure if I've tried three times or not at this moment. I will try several times in a row and give it a few minutes. I'll reply back as soon as I'm done. Thanks.

I've tried logging in about seven times in a row, gave it a good ten minutes in between some of the attempts, but I still get error FFXI-3117. May end up reinstalling POL and FFXI and updating all night while asleep. Any other ideas?

hanging on acquiring character list during creation isn't bad, it's happened to me (it happens after the character is created so you can just close and relaunch).

From doing a little google searching, it looks like the answer is to run as administrator.

Problem solved! Initially I don't think I was following the '3 strikes you're in' method, thanks to KjLotus for pointing that out. My next problem was forgetting to continue to start Ashita with admin privileges. After blueKirby0 mentioned that I needed to run as administrator I realized my mistake. The game works great!

I'd like to apologize to bluekirby0 and kjLotus, actually bluekirby0 is the one that pointed out that it took several tries to get past the character creation bug which caused me to look into it some more. I appreciate the help bluekirby0. kjlotus also helped out by stating that errors during character creation were normal which got me past thinking there was a significant problem with my server. I appreciate all of the comments for pointing me in the right direction - sometimes I have a tendency to think I know what is causing a particular situation and beat it to death to no avail, overlooking simple mistakes that I may have been making all along.
