Host IP
Re: Host IP
If you have changed your zone ip's to a public IP you will need to either connect using the public IP or use the internal IP with the hairpin fix.
Re: Host IP
Awesome Thanks! That has been confusing me this entire time. So anyone else who tries to connect to my server will instead see my IP instead I'm assuming.
Re: Host IP
If you want others to connect to it, they will need to know your IP address. You can use free dynamic IP hosts like dyndns, no-ip.org, etc. to help with your IP constantly changing to auto-update with their client tools.Raige wrote:Awesome Thanks! Keep in mind though, DSP is coded to mimic the FFXI protocol pretty much the same as it is. There is no optimizations to it.
FFXI is fairly bandwidth intensive as packets are not really compressed much at all and are sent very frequently.
We do not really encourage hosting a DSP server from your house as it will eat your bandwidth fast. If you are on a limited bandwidth amount per month, you will probably hit it fairly fast hosting a private server for any game with multiple people playing on it. DSP is also resource intensive and is growing more and more each update. So keep in mind that it is much more recommended to use a VPS to host your server than to host it at your house.
Re: Host IP
Yeah! I read that you stated that in other topics since i read every single thread here. Ha!. After i get this going, I plan to set up a VPS. but before i do that, I want to make sure I can do this first. I'm still working on it. I'm making some head way thanks to the help, but I'm trying to get my buddy on here, so I'm about to try your method stated as above.
Re: Host IP
So, Progress! But not quite there. All thats left thats holding me up is something keeping my friend from connecting to my IP right from the Ashita loader. I'm hoping that maybe the answer is in there somewhere. Because once again, I'm for a loss. I got a DNS set up but I haven't a clue on how to utilize it for this... yet. Thats study material for tomorrow. After reading through every single thread, I am sorry for being the 1000th person to ask about this.
Re: Host IP
I also have an similar issue, my friends just cannot connect, we even tried Hamachi, but in that program my friend couldn't "ping" me, but I could ping her, so I am going to try set up the server on her PC and see if I can connect.
If you do figure this out, I'd really like to know what you did.

Re: Host IP
Make sure that you are forwarding the ports on your router for the given computer hosting the server.
Also make sure that it is allowed to go through your firewall if you have one. (Such as the Windows firewall.)
And be sure that your zone IP in the database is correct for your external IP.

Re: Host IP
I've opened DMZ for the testing. Tested every fire wall setting.
ZoneIP is set to my external IP decimal.
I'm logging in just fine.
Once again dude, thank you for all your help.
Once I can get someone connected to my External IP... I'd be in the clear.
Re: Host IP
Do you have an antivirus or other firewall like ZoneAlarm or something that may be blocking the connections?
Also DSP does not use port 80 at all for anything. So testing your external IP with it wont help.
The game server uses port: 54230
The lobby server uses port: 54001 and 54231
Also the lan_config file is not used at all so don't worry about editing that one.
1 other thing to note looking at that picture, most of FFXI's connections are UDP, but your firewall rules are set for TCP. Should add them for UDP as well.

Re: Host IP
Does it matter what they are set as? (ie. PPTP)

It might be my ISP. Nothing is working.
