My best guess would be that you made an error in the xml for your server, or you didn't allow three tries to log in with a new character for the first time.
Try using one of the pre-packaged xml scripts for the Darkstar Test Server or Darkstar Classic Server, see if you can make it in-game there, and report back.
lan and wan issues
Re: lan and wan issues
sorry for the late reply, i had made the script as a copy from the test server xml file, to begin with, and i just tried a different one and no go one that. EG: open test server.xml up then edit it then save as.bluekirby0 wrote:My best guess would be that you made an error in the xml for your server, or you didn't allow three tries to log in with a new character for the first time.

also this isn't the first log in for this char, to this server, i had tested it out before making it public.
also when you do try to connect in and just sit at downloading data screen, then it come's back with a cant connect to server error, and then you are ghosted on the server.

I'm running out of ideas here, but one of the basics of troubleshooting is to remove as many variables as possible. The dsp test server is a known good server with a configuration that generally works for everyone.
If you can connect to that then we can assume the problem is with your server config.
If not, we can assume the problem is elsewhere. The next step from here would be to isolate whether it is a client issue or a router issue.

ok i have done a bit of investigating on this issue, and this is what i have came out with.bluekirby0 wrote:I'm running out of ideas here, but one of the basics of troubleshooting is to remove as many variables as possible. i can connect to my server if i take and redo the ip in the database to point to my local lan, and not my wan,
i can also connect to any other server out there.
even though ppl can connect to my server, with my wan ip set in the database, i double checked the ports, and they are listed there in my router, and point to my linux box. ( server. )
i have disabled any firewall i have on my win box ( client ).
have looked to see if there was any type of firewall running on my server box. ( linux ) and nothing there.
i have also built the server on my client box (windows), and taken a second windows box and tried to connect in ( thinking it might be something with linux. ) and still nothing, and clean conf files. ( IE: every thing default, except for my DB settings. ) and also have left the firewall off on both win boxes during this test phase.
so im coming to the conclusion of it being maby a router issue.
PS: not sure how the hairpinning works, but i dont have my lan set to the standard ( class C ) 192.168.x.x ip address, i have a ( class A ) 10.x.x.x address

Re: lan and wan issues
My LAN server that I tested the hairpinning hack is on 10.11.15.51 so it is not your address.
